Publicity Internship

Goose Lane Editions, Canada’s oldest independent publisher, is seeking a dynamic team player to join our publicity department for a one-year internship. This is an excellent opportunity to work with award-winning authors, top literary festivals, and media across Canada. The successful candidate will also gain valuable marketing and publishing experience, working with a wide variety of titles including fiction, poetry, non-fiction, guidebooks, and art publications.  

Duties
  • Assist in the development of a range of advertising, promotional, and media materials, including posters, invitations, media releases, and advertising copy
  • Assist in the development and execution of publicity plans, including the development of media lists and media strategies for specific titles
  • Coordinate review copy mailings and follow-ups to national media
  • Provide research materials to assist the Publicity Manager and Publisher in the development of title-specific marketing plans for a range of titles
  • Help manage GLE’s social media channels , including the execution of title-specific social media campaigns
  • Work with booksellers, museums, galleries, literary festivals, reading series, and other venues to secure and promote appropriate promotional events
  • Develop itineraries for authors on tour (including arrangements for travel and accommodations)
  • Provide regular, timely updates for our sales team, including in-person, email, and telephone communication, ensuring they are well informed and equipped to best represent the company’s titles in specific market areas
  • Identify appropriate awards and prepare submission packages
  • Administrative duties as required

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to thrive within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • •Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • An appreciation for and familiarity with Canadian literature
  • Familiarity with social media and Hootsuite an asset

The internship will begin June 19, 2017 and run for a period of one-year. The successful candidate will be expected to work 40 hrs per week in our Fredericton, New Brunswick office, at $14.00/hour. Please note that while the start date may be adjusted to accommodate applicants from other provinces, Goose Lane Editions does not offer relocation expenses.
