International Women's Day: The Fearless, World Traveling Aloha Wanderwell

Posted by Goose Lane Editions on

March 8 marks International Women's Day. This year's theme focuses on being bold in order to alter societies perceptions and stigma surrounding gender.

We can think of no better #BeBoldForChange historical role model, than the fearless, world traveling Aloha Wanderwell

As a woman, adventuring around the globe while wearing men's breeches in a Model T Ford during the 1920's, was no small feat. She was photographed in front of the Eiffel Tower, parked on the back of the Sphinx, firing mortars in China, and smiling at a tickertape parade in Detroit. By the age of 25, she had become a pilot, a film star, and an ambassador for world peace. Find out more about her in Aloha Wanderwell: The Border-Smashing, Record-Setting Life of the World’s Youngest Explorer.

Find some rare footage from Aloha (made available via Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) below:

To celebrate her and those like her who challenge normative assumptions about gender roles, we are discounting a number of books that resonate with #BeBoldForChange.
