Posted by Goose Lane Editions on

April is National Poetry Month, and to mark the occasion we'll be sharing some of our favourite poems from collections we've published over the years. Today's poem is "On Looking up into a Tree" by Alyda Faber from the collection dust or fire.

From now until the end of June, we're offering 50% off our eBooks and free shipping in Canada on orders over $25!

"On Looking up into a Tree"
by Alyda Faber

 Her leaves, upside-down
kitchen drawers.
Forks, knives, and spoons
hang bat-like,
all blue-tinged shine
and scant tinkle.

That’s where
my love-hunger,
a ragged contagion
knotted into ropes,
coils among her root-hills
and looks up.

Her trunk’s wary door
hides a stairwell
to a dizzy room.
When I’m there
walls sing me
happy absolution.
