Marq de Villiers Shortlisted for Evelyn Richardson Non-Fiction Award
4 May 2016The nominees for the 2016 East Coast Literary Awards were announced today in Halifax. Included in this year’s shortlisted titles for the Evelyn Richardson Non-Fiction Award is Back to the Well: Rethinking the Future of Water by Marq de Villiers.
A clear-eyed assessment of the politics of our most precious resource — from the personal and commercial uses of water to the impact of climate change and global conflicts — Back to the Well examines how political ideologies often obscure underlying issues. De Villiers makes the controversial suggestion that there is no global water crisis, but that water problems are fundamentally local and regional and can most effectively be addressed through local, rather than global, action.
Also shortlisted for the award this year are Dean Jobb for Empire of Deception (HarperCollins) and Gary L. Saunders for My Life With Trees(Gaspereau Press). The winner of the award will be announced at the East Coast Literary Awards presentation in Halifax on June 4, following a series of readings celebrating the shortlisted writers.
