Goose Lane Announces Debut Book from Khalil Akhtar

Posted by Goose Lane Editions on

Goose Lane Editions has acquired the publishing rights to How to Eat with Your Hands, the debut book from acclaimed CBC food columnist, journalist, cooking instructor, and on-air personality Khalil Akhtar. How to Eat with Your Hands is a series of evocative and informative essays meant to please and inspire both home cooks and armchair chefs. Publication is scheduled for Fall 2026.

Best known for his syndicated CBC Radio column that examined a range of issues around food, How to Eat with Your Hands is Akhtar’s thoughtful examination of our intertwined relationships with food and home. Akhtar uses his own relationship with home cooking — notably the Punjabi cuisine he grew up with — to orient readers and home cooks toward understanding the values and knowledge available to us in our own kitchens.

Khalil Akhtar is a discerning observer of food and foodways,” say Non-Fiction Acquisitions Editor Simon Thibault. “How to Eat with Your Hands is where Khalil acknowledges the kitchen as a place of encouragement — individual, familial, and cultural — where the work feeds us, and opens up our ideas of what food can be.”
